Village Church" is an inter-regional social charitable foundation that provides support for the rescue of churches - architectural monuments in the Russian countryside. These ancient village churches had significant historical and cultural value and were the centers of spiritual and intellectual life in the villages. After having been forgotten for decades, they now need urgent repairs. "Village Church" considers their restoration as its duty.

"May God's blessing accompany you on the holy mission to preserve dilapidated and desecrated churches in the countryside".

Patriarch Alexy II of Moscow and All Russia 8.VI.1992

(Declaration made by His Holiness Patriarch Alexy II concerning the letter about the rescue of dying churches written by director of "Village Church
Svetlana Aleksandrovna Melnikova.)

"The village churches are in a special class of architectural monuments, with a special history, which is very significant to the people of Russia. Destruction of the churches would be a great loss to Russia".

The chairman of the "Village Church" Centre
Svetlana Aleksandrovna Melnikova

First of all we restore and repair roofs, windows and doors and reinforce the church's main building constructions - walls, foundations, vaults - to bring the church building out of its ruinous condition. The remaining work is then executed by the newly formed congregation.

Engineers and architects from our Centre supervise the emergency work which is usually very complicated. High professional skills and the devotion to a goal make for a very fast and competent inspection of the church buildings, allows further to set up plans for top-priority activities as well as the execution of all necessary design work and follow-up.

Organizations and private people make charitable donations for the work that needs to be carried out.

The churches, having been restored to their former glory, are then handed back to the people as places for worship.
